Grape: Palomino Fino
Tasting Notes: Orange peel, Roasted Nuts, Coffee, Vanilla
Barbadillo is, without a doubt, both the largest and the leading bodega of Sanlucar de Barrameda. Created in 1821 by Benigno Barbadillo, the company is still owned today by the seventh generation of the Barbadillo family.
Palo cortado is something of a specialty for Barbadillo and Obispo Gascon is the flagship Palo cortado of the house. It's bottled from the fifth criadera (tier) of their eight criadera solera. This Palo Cortado is a wine of great complexity and elegance. The palate is medium weight and supplies flavors of toasted bread, roasted nuts, figs, dates, orange peel, and coffee beans with hints of eucalyptus and vanilla. The very dry, walnut edged finish holds on thanks to riveting acidity. Pairs beautifully with Jamon, roasted nuts and hard or blue cheeses.
