In 1805, when François Clicquot, the founder's son, dies, his widow is 27. It takes Madame Cliquot only a few weeks to come to a decision. She thus becomes one of the first businesswomen of modern times. Madame Cliquot continued to build the business, introducing the vintage bottling and inventing the the first riddling table, which guarantees a crystal-clear wine. Ultimately, Madame Clicquot becomes known to her peers as “La Grande Dame” of Champagne.
The Veuve Cliquot house style is one of richness and power fully represented by the Yellow Label bottling. It has excellent depth and persistence; medium bodied, dry, medium acidity, well balanced; bright and beautiful. Flavors of apple, vanilla, baked bread, quince and light honey caress the palate. Pairs beautifully with a variety of foods, including roast duck, smoked salmon and shrimp.
