The Black Dirt Distilling, LLC was formed in March, 2012 but was born as the Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery in 2002. In 2001, Warwick applied for and received a grant to develop New York’s first fruit micro-distillery since Prohibition. The Black Dirt Region takes its name from the dark, fertile soil left by an ancient glacial that once covered upstate New York.
