Tasting Notes: Butter, Vanilla, Stone Fruit, Baking Spice
Founders Koerner and Joan Rombauer moved their two children, two horses and five dogs to Napa Valley in 1972. Koerner's ancestors originated from the winegrowing region of Rheingau, Germany, and his great Aunt Irma Rombauer authored the renowned cookbook The Joy of Cooking. So, it was destined that Koerner and Joan would start a winery which they did in 1980. Forty years later, Rombauer Vineyards remains owned by second- and third-generation members of the family.
In 1990, the Rombauer family made their first Chardonnay from the Carneros region. Each vintage of the wine receives solid ratings from the critic's. The 2018 Carneros Chardonnay has the classic plush style of the estate. The creamy and rich palate offers sweet stone and tropical fruits, along with notes of butter, creme brulee, baking spices and a slight minerality. The long, smooth finish is marked by mouthwatering acidity witha hint of nutmeg. Pairs well with a Lobster Rolls or Fettuccine with Salmon and Asparagus.
