This weekend is Father’s Day, and we’ve got the perfect selection of whiskies and spirits to put a smile on your old man’s face this Sunday. Surprise him with Hibiki 12 or a bottle of Macallan 18, but then kindly leave him alone, because he’d just like to finish reading his newspaper in peace.
For tasting, with our friend Nathan from Winemonger, we have four wines from Germany, Italy, Austria and California to sample, and they are simply terrific. Come give them a try, stay and chat a bit if you like and don’t forget to pick up something nice for the weekend. The tasting starts as always at 5 pm and the wines we are sampling will be 15% off.
Once again, from all of us here at the Corkery, we wish a happy and relaxing Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

2014 Easkoot Cellars Foggy Bottom Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast ($24.99) $21.24
Grape: Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: Red Cherry, Forest Floor, Oak, Herbal
Named after the sailor who made his final landfall in Marin and later became the surveyor to first stake out this winery's vineyards, Easkoot selected uniquely cool and foggy sites to create an old-worldly style of Pinot Noir. The wine is from Pinot grapes grown in a vineyard block dominated by gravelly clay loam soils. The result is an elegantly styled wine that is light on oak and shows off bright fruit notes.
2014 Tornesi Rosso di Tavola Il Canto del Cuculo, Tuscany, Italy ($16.99) $14.44
Tasting Notes: Cherry, Blackberry, Leather, Earth
Tornesi is hallmark name in the historical Brunello town of Montalcino. As a family they have owned agricultural land in this area since the 1700's. A breed of true Tuscan farmers, farming organically, Maurizio Tornesi's is the epitome of a true, authentic and generous "contadino" (peasant).
If Rosso Di Montalcino is a "baby Brunello", then Tornesi's "Canto Del Cuculo rosso" is none other than a "baby Rosso". It's made from the youngest vines and fermented in stainless steel tanks. It's fresh, vibrant and delicate expression of Sangiovesse made in Montalcino.
