This domaine rose to prominence when Alain Voge joined his father’s smallholding in the late 1950s, moving it from polyculture to focusing exclusively on wine. Following Alain’s retirement 2004, Chapoutier alumnus Albéric Mazoyer took over as co-owner and winemaker, moving the domaine to biodynamic practices. Since 2018, Lionel Fraisse has been at the helm. He continues to champion the sustainable winemaking of his predecessors.
Les Vieilles Fontaines comes from a separate parcel that does not get made every vintage. It's classic Cornas character - powerful, concentrated, incredibly textured, full-bodied wine with ultra refined tannins, medium plus acid and a long savory finish. It has a wide array of flavor nuance - blackberry, red berries, cassis, leather, blueberry fruits, ground pepper, violets, graphite, earth, cocoa, and mineral. Needs time or significant decanting. Pairs with lamb or game.
