Grape: Syrah
Tasting Notes: Black Currant, Cherry, Olive, Cracked pepper
This Domaine rose to prominence when Alain Voge joined his father’s smallholding in the late 1950s, moving it from polyculture to focusing exclusively on wine. Following Alain’s retirement in 2004, Chapoutier alumnus Albéric Mazoyer took over as co-owner and winemaker, moving the Domaine to biodynamic practices. Since 2018, Lionel Fraisse has been at the helm. He continues to champion the sustainable winemaking of his predecessors.
This stunner from Alain Voge is 100% Syrah from the Northern Rhone. Super rare. Aged between 2-5 years in oak casks. The palate is concentrated and earthy with hints of spice and minerals. Lovely tension between acidity and tannins. Medium plus body and a satisfying finish. Think pork or any grilled meat.
