Grape: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 7% Cabernet Franc
Tasting Notes: Blackberry, Mushroom, Earth, Mint
The Antinori family of Florence, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century and celebrated its 635th anniversary as wine makers in 2020."Solaia" derives from sole, the Italian word for sun. The sunniest part of the Tignanello estate’s hillside is home to the Solaia vineyard from which all the grapes for this amazing wine originate.
Antinori’s 2018 Solaia captures all of the elegance of this important vintage. The bouquet alone is mesmerizing. It is very structured and multidimensional. Full-bodied, powerful yet smooth and balanced with a velvety texture, bright acidity, an incredible tannin backbone and tremendous depth.
The dark-berry, wet-earth, black cherry, blackberry, black currants, raisin, mushroom, cranberry, blueberry, tobacco, and crushed mint alongside white pepper flavors on the palate are phenomenal. This energetic wine needs a few years or a long decant to fully develop into a wine you'll long remember drinking. Bistecca alla Fiorentina is the obvious pairing for this Florentine gem.
