Grape:  84% Tempranillo, 16% Mazuelo

Tasting Notes:  Black Fruit, Mocha, Vanilla, Leather

Marques de Murrieta is named after Luciano de Murrieta, one of the founding fathers of modern Rioja winemaking, who established the estate in 1852. Located at the heart of La Rioja, the estate is home to Ygay Castle. The Cebrián-Sagarriga family acquired the Marqués de Murrieta winery in 1983. Only the finest vintages from the 741-acre Ygay Estate are used to make Castillo Ygay.

Fruit for Marqués de Murrieta’s Gran Reserva Especial is hand-harvested from an 80-year-old single-vineyard called La Plana, located at the highest peak within the Ygay Estate. This vintage is very complex and developed. Full bodied and intense with juicy acidity, fantastic depth, power and wonderful harmonious balance. Black cherry, black tea, blackberry, succulent herb, vanilla, forest floor, red plum, leather, and mocha flavors remain young and vibrant.  Great with Beef Wellington or with game or Iberico ham and cheese. Drink now or over the next 15 years.
