Grape: Monastrell (Mourvedre)Tasting Notes: Raspberry, Blackberry, Smoke, Vanilla
Created by Ramon Castaño Santa and his 3 sons, Bodegas Castaño is not nearly as old as the vines it owns. Starting quite small, the family has nurtured old plantings and re-planted other parcels and now owns vines in four prime vineyard estates. The family is dedicated to the Monastrell variety (aka Mourvèdre) and the grapes are all sustainably and organically farmed. Their Monastrell is soft and silky on the palate, with elegant tannins, and dark and red fruit flavors that roll into the long finish. This make a good pairing with lamb kebabs.
