Grape: Tinta Negra Mole
Tasting Notes: Nutty, Caramel, Raisins. Orange peel
The history of Madeira wine stretches back to the Age of Exploration, when Madeira was a frequent port of call for ships whose captains would fuel up on wine for their trans-Atlantic journey. Winemaker Juan Teixeira works with the Broadbent family’s network of growers to create the blends but it's Michael Broadbent who goes to Madeira to personally taste and select only the finest wines.
This wine shows just a bare hint of sweetness. It's full-bodied, has a satiny textured and racy acidity. The wine's complex flavors—dried fruit, caramel, earthiness, tree fruit, baking spices, and minerality—combined with its tangy and salty finish, pair well with gravlax, lightly smoked cheeses, toasted almonds and chocolate.
