Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes: Red Currant, Blackberry, Spice, Vanilla
The name “Casarena” is a creative merging of the Spanish words “casa” (house) and “arena” (sand), and is a tribute to their restored 1930s winery made of sand-colored stone and the sandy soil that their estate is built on.
2016 was a tough vintage in Argentina but the Casarena Cabernet Sauvignon Owen's Vineyard, made from 90-year-old vines on pergolas, was a bright spot. The mouthfeel is full and well structured. It has medium body, soft tannins, and moderate acidity. There's good balance and freshness as well as smooth, structured flavors of red currant, raspberry, savory minerality, blackberry, plum, cocoa, and oak with sweet spice and vanilla notes from the French oak aging. Pair with meats in earthy sauces such as mushrooms or truffles.
