Grape:  Malbec

Tasting Notes:  Black cherry, Floral, Black Olives, Oak

Bodega Catena Zapata is one of Argentina's high altitude Malbec pioneers. The Catena family began making wine in Mendoza in 1902. Over the past 20 years, Nicolás Catena and his daughter Laura and their vineyard management team have worked tirelessly in the discovery, identification and development of key microclimates in the high altitude wine country of Mendoza. Riverstone is a 1.6-hectare parcel of Malbec grown in a dry river bed of stones. These stones make for optimal drainage and extreme temperatures because the stones absorb the heat and moderate the nights but also function like ice cubes after a very cold night.

This 100 point rated wine is pure and focused, elegant and nuanced, and perfectly balanced with very fine tannins and rich acidity. The palate is quite intense with flavors of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, lavender, violet, black olives, oak, leather, and vanilla. The finish is long and smooth. Cries for grilled meat pairing.
