Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Fran
Tasting Notes: Plum, Blackberry, Spice, Cedar
One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Léoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Château Léoville Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from 3/5 of the original estate and the heart of the domain.
The 2011 Chateau Leoville Las Cases was a standout for this overlooked vintage. It was selected as the #10 wine in the 2014 Wine Spectator Top 100. It's full bodied, with a serious density for the vintage, structured, rich, and has firm tannin and racy acidity. There's sumptuous blackberry, crushed plum, wild strawberry, minerals, black cherry, pepper/spices, violet and cedar flavors. Best from 2018 through 2030.
