Chateau Pontet Canet produces what many people call the most popular and in-demand Bordeaux of the appellation. This Fifth Growth estate hits well above that ranking due mainly to the current management of the estate by Alfred Tesseron and the risks he has taken to improve the quality of the wines. While not noted on the label, in 2010, Chateau Pontet Canet became the first major Bordeaux wine producer to earn the official Agence Bio (AB) organic certification.
The 2014 Pontet-Canet is powerful, ample and racy in the glass. Extremely high rated across the board of reviewers, this wine is full-bodied, rich, concentrated, and profoundly layered with massive and natural tannins.
Thrilling notes of black fruit, cassis, crushed mint, graphite, red and black currant preserves, raspberry, prune, tobacco, and crushed rock. This wine will eventually call for a special dinner, perhaps a crown roast.
