Grape: 77% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, and tiny percentages of Malbec and Petit Verdot
Tasting Notes: Black Currant, Black cherry, Cedar, Vanilla
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent forty years establishing itself as one of North America’s premier producers. Their 2014 Merlot Napa Valley Three Palms Vineyard was Wine Spectator's #1 wine of 2017.
The 2017 vintage is sturdy, well-structured; and firm with soft tannins and medium acidity. Loads of fruit flavors abound including Bing cherry, black currant, raspberry, plum, and blueberry along with nuances of cedar, vanilla, clove, and dried herb with a hint of leather. Pure enjoyment with most anything meaty off the grill.
