Fattoria dei Barbi is among a prestigious group of estates that has played an integral part in writing the history of Italian wine. In fact, the estate is one of only five in Montalcino that have continuously operated for over 100 years. The Colombini family, one of region’s most influential families, founded the estate in 1790. The estate is currently owned and managed by the 20th generation heir.
In Tuscany, Sangiovese is the primary grape in three of Italy's most popular red wines: Chianti, Vino Nobile and Brunello di Montalcino. However, Montalcinos have more texture and complexity than Chianti due to differences in soil and warmer climate in Montalcino. Brunellos are aged longer too. This makes Brunello Tuscany's most exclusive, expensive and cellar worthy wine. Prepare your next steak Tuscan style and open a bottle.
