Tasting Notes: Cherry, Spice, Licorice, Earth
The Vajra family has farmed Bricco delle Viole, the highest cru in Comune di Barolo, since the 1880s. High elevation vineyards are a unique factor to the Vajra wines, for their ability to express finesse and remarkable complexity over power. Aldo Vajra, the current owner, acquired the first organic certification in the region (1971).
The Bricco delle Viole is Vajra's flagship wine from the first vineyard they owned. It's medium to full-bodied, structured, and savory with fresh acidity and powdery tannins that provide the backbone. The classy palate delivers ripe cherry, raspberry compote, star anise, blood orange, clove. soil, licorice, tar, and cinnamon before closing on pipe tobacco notes. A wonderful compliment to farfalle meatball Bolognese.
