Grape: Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: Cherry, Blackberry, Herbs, Forest Floor
Founded by Sarah and Chris Pittenger in 2009, Gros Ventre Cellars is a small, family-owned winery operating out of Healdsburg, CA. Chris did a lot of the dirty work at Williams-Selyem from 2004-2006, then jumped to Marcassin to work with Helen Turley from 2007-2009, before breaking out on his own to start Gros Ventre. That’s quite the Pinot Noir résumé wouldn’t you say?
The highly coveted fruit that went into the Gros Ventre Cerise Vineyard Pinot Noir is only sold to a handful of select producers. This Pinot is from a steep 700-1100 feet above sea level site, that gives off very intense red and black fruit notes. Light tannins and mouthwatering acidity create a wine that is reminiscent of a red Burgundy, with it's own California flair. There is also a savory, herbal edge to the wine as well, that makes it a perfect food companion. It was aged in mostly neutral French oak for 11 months. Unfined & unfiltered.
