Tasting Notes: Prune, Garden Soil, Hazelnut, Blackberry
Four generations of the Sassetti family have made wine in Montalcino. The "Podere Pertimali" with its 16 hectares of vineyards is one of the most favorable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. We had the pleasure of visiting Sassetti a number of years ago and met a few of the family members including Livio. Their Brunello has always been one of our favorites and is consistently excellent in every vintage.
Rosso di Montalcino is often referred to as a "Baby Brunello" because the wine is made from the same delicious Brunello grapes, however, it sees less time in oak before release. They provide a snapshot of everything we love about Brunellos.
This "baby" is medium-bodied, with fine tannins, extreme complexity, and elegance. Deep black plum, cassis, black and blueberry, violet, fresh dark earth, hazelnut, and herb flavors flow on a silky palate. Will pair with any winter dish.
