Grape: Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: Plum, Cherry, Mushroom, Cocoa
Erica and Kim Crawford founded Kim Crawford Wines back in 1996 as a "virtual winery" out of the back room of their Auckland home. Within seven years, Kim Crawford Wines was the country's tenth-largest winery in global sales. In 2003, the Crawfords sold the label. They went shopping after their sale, upping their vineyard holdings to about 215 hectares, which included 160 hectares of undeveloped hillside and adjoining land in Marlborough's Awatere Valley that is now home to the Loveblock brand. Their new brand is growing and now produces over 27,000 cases annually.
This very appealing Pinot from Central Otago is dry, light bodied, and nicely balanced with moderate acidity and soft tannins. The elegant palate will offer up flavors of black plum, cherry, sweet berries, mushroom, and smoke hints of cocoa and cigar. The flexibility of this wine will permit pairing with turkey, salmon, lamb and beef.
