Grape: Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes: Pineapple, Peach, Lemon Zest, Minerals
Ms. Edwards is one of California's pioneer woman winemaker with a career that began in the '70's. She opened her eponymous named winery in 1997 but in the late 1970's, while building Matanzas Creek from scratch, Merry developed a unique style of Sauvignon Blanc, the model for her own wildly successful and highly regarded varietal wine today.
A key component of this wine is the highly floral Sauvignon Musqué selection from Sancerre, which comprises one-third of the blend. Her Sauvignon Blanc is lush, vibrant and balanced with acidity. On the palate, that vibrant acidity is finely balanced with a rich, creamy mouthfeel creating a unique textural experience — reminiscent of a refreshing blood orange sorbet. Flavors of pineapple, peach, citrus, sweet quince, honeydew, guava, honey and baked apple dance across the palate. In my book, it's the best Sauvignon Blanc made in the US and the critics agree. a great match for roast chicken Provencal
