Occhipinti is located in the Vittoria region of southeastern coast of Sicily. Owner, winemaker and viticulturist Arianna Occhipinti founded the estate in 2004, bottled her first commercial vintage in 2006 and today works exclusively with estate fruit. Arianna's star has risen very quickly over the last decade in the wine world, and she is rightly regarded as a symbol of success in the world of biodynamic farming and natural winemaking.
‘SP68’ [named after the main road near her home], is essentially a Cerasuolo di Vittoria, the traditional blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola of the region. She chooses to label under IGT so that she can age the wine for a shorter time then the DOCG allows, in order to craft a super fresh version of the traditional blend.
On the palate it is fresh, delicate, with tangy acidity and silky black tea tannins. Flavors of strawberry, black cherry, red currant, white pepper, raspberry, black cherry, plum, with some earthy, minerals and mushroom nuances. Pair with Eggplant parm in red sauce.
