Opus One is a partnership founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac, France, and renowned Napa Valley vintner, Robert Mondavi. After its debut in 1979, Opus One quickly rose to cult status, and to this day it remains one of the most profound and sought-after wines produced in the United States.
The 2019 Opus One is fresh, rich, sensual and super-polished. The palate is wonderfully bright and crunchy, with bags of fresh black and red berries, plum, chocolate, blackberry, black tea, tobacco, leather, with gravelly earth and cedary oak notes. Although it is already approachable, allow it another 3-5 years in bottle for its myriad of subtle accents to fully blossom and then drink it over the next 30+ years.
