Tasting Notes: Cranberry, Cherry, Licorice, Tar
Renato Ratti began his wine journey in Brazil where he is put in charge of the production of Vermouths and sparkling wines for Cinzano of Sao Paolo. In 1965 he returns to Piedmont and buys his first vineyard for the production of Barolo. In the ensuing decade Renato Ratti becomes an important point of reference for Langhe wines and Italian wines in general. He is elected president of the Barolo Consortium and subsequently General Director of the Asti Consortium. After his untimely death in 1988, his son Pietro took charge of the company. Pietro is carrying on his father’s iconic legacy and crafting acclaimed wines that are the hallmark of the Barolo zone.
The Ratti Barolo Marcenasco from the Marcenasco vineyard located directly under the Ratti family winery is graceful, elegant, complex, balanced, medium to full bodied with medium acidity and firm, fine tannins. The dense, powerful palate supplies flavors of cranberry, dried cherry, licorice, plum, leather, spice, tar, oak, violets, dried herbs, and espresso. Pairs beautifully with wagyu skewers.
