Grape: Furmint
Tasting Notes: Apricot, Spice, Citrus, Honey
Royal Tokaji was founded in 1990 by well-known author Hugh Johnson and a small group of investors, including Ben Howkins, who were inspired after the fall of Communism to restore and preserve Hungary’s precious wine legacy. Royal Tokaji’s ensuing success can largely be contributed to its unique combination of first and second growth vineyards, including one of Hungary’s two great first growths: Mézes Mály. Puttonyos is the unit given to denote the level of sugar and hence the sweetness of Hungarian dessert wine with 6 Puttonyos being the sweetest.
This is a beautifully rich wine with plenty of structure and dramatic acidity. The palate resonates with flavors of apricot, orange marmalade, pineapple, spice, citrus, honey, and ginger. Very elegant and refreshing with a crisp, long finish, perfectly balanced. Pairs well with fruit based desserts.
