Tasting Notes: Apple, Butterscotch, Lemon Zest, Mineral
Scar of the Sea is a project begun by longtime friends Mikey Giugni and Mike Brughelli. Together, they wanted to craft wines from vineyards that are influenced by the sea — with maritime soils and climates — which produce wines that speak of their origins in the Central Coast of California. To that end, Mikey and Mike founded Scar of the Sea, sourcing fruit from environmentally conscious growers at top-quality vineyard sites. Today Scar of the Sea is owned & operated by Mikey Giugni and his wife Gina.
The Chardonnay is like new world 1er Cru Chablis with its salty minerality and piquant fruit character. The acid is clean, well-integrated giving a citrus-zest snap to the sip. Smooth, round, and minerally on the palate with lemon, granny smith, pineapples, toasted almond, light butterscotch, a kiss of oak, and lemon zest flavors. A nice pairing for rich white fish, like haddock.
