The Tenuta San Guido is located in Tuscany near the village of Bolgheri. Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta acquired it through his marriage to Clarice della Gherardesca in 1940. The legacy of Sassicaia began in 1944. Sassicaia is today considered to be the new plus ultra of Italy's great red wines for its consistent excellence.
When a wine receives 5 ratings from the wine world's most respected voices and their lowest score is 98 points, it's unquestionably a wine of the highest caliber. The Sassicaia 2019 achieved such lofty reviews. It's elegant, extremely polished, beautifully balanced, precise, and clean with integrated velvety tannins and lifted acidity. The impressive palate provides black cherry, black currant, blackberry red plum, cedar, earth, tobacco, thyme, sage, and graphite. Pair with braised meats and hard cheeses. Best after 2026 but this is one of the Italian wines of a lifetime.
